Emergency Care: When our regular office closes, we function as East of the River Veterinary Emergency Clinic (E.O.R.V.E.C.), an emergency clinic open to our clients, as well as to the public. We are staffed with veterinarians and technicians to care for your pet 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Once your pet is discharged from E.O.R.V.E.C., a full medical report will be faxed to your regular veterinarian.
Annual physical exams & vaccination: In order to keep your companion in optimum health, annual physical exams are highly recommended. Wellness exams can identify health conditions before they become serious and help prevent future illness.
Dentistry: Our dental services include cleaning and polishing, digital dental X-rays, tooth extractions, and oral surgery.
Exotic Pet Care: Many of our veterinarians take a special interest in caring for exotic pets. Species we see regularly include ferrets, rabbits, guinea pigs, chinchillas, rats, hamsters, mice, turtles and tortoises, snakes, lizards, and a variety of birds (most typically finches, parakeets, cockatiels, and the occasional chicken or duck!).
Large Animal Farm Calls: Several of our veterinarians travel to local area farms to provide both routine and emergency services for large animals (cattle, sheep, goats). Clients are also welcome to bring animals to the office for medical care.
Pharmacy: We maintain a complete inventory of pharmaceuticals, vitamins, shampoos, flea and tick control products and heartworm preventatives to meet the needs of your pet. We also carry a full line of prescription diets at the Pet’s Store Next Door. Custom orders (such as flavored medications or uncommonly used drugs) and home delivery are available through our partner pharmacy, Vet’s First Choice.
Parasite Control Programs: We develop programs for the specific needs of your pet and your own particular environmental situation. We will review with you the best ways to control fleas and other parasites in your house, in your yard and on your pet.
Dietary Counseling: We will provide guidance regarding your pet’s nutritional needs for each life stage, including dietary requirements for growth, weight maintenance and performance. If needed, consultations with university hospital nutrition services are available.
Permanent Identification: We offer microchip implantation as a means of permanent identification.
Laboratory & Diagnostic Services: Our hospital is equipped with an in-house diagnostic lab which allows us to rapidly diagnose and begin treating any signs of illness. We also work with two major reference laboratories and a variety of university diagnostic laboratories to permit cost-effective routine testing as well as pursuing specialized diagnostics and consultations when needed.
Internal Medicine Consults: We offer in-hospital access to several internal medicine specialists who perform ultrasounds and endoscopic procedures. These specialists are also available to assist our doctors in the diagnosis and treatment of more complex or unusual cases.
Radiology Services: Our on-site, digital X-ray equipment provides high quality radiographs to aid in the quick diagnosis of many disorders.
Cardiology / Electrocardiography Services: We provide ECG services on-site to diagnose cardiac conditions rapidly. We also provide once-monthly access to an in-hospital cardiologist to allow for more specialized care.
Surgery & Anesthesia
Surgical Services: Our state-of-the-art surgical suite provides for the performance of a wide variety of surgical procedures. We are also proud to offer the services of a board certified surgeon.
Anesthesia: Anesthetic protocols are determined on an individual basis for each patient, providing an extra margin of safety for patients of any age or species. Using the most modern equipment, a patient’s vital signs are monitored continuously throughout all anesthetic procedures.
Acupuncture: We are pleased to offer acupuncture treatment for our patients. Acupuncture treatments are administered with care and with great success by Dr. Cassandra Oswald. If you would like more information about the benefits of acupuncture for your pet, please contact our hospital.
Low-Level laser Therapy: Low-level laser therapy has been shown to assist healing and aid in the treatment of inflammatory conditions such as arthritis. Several of our doctors routinely make use of low-level laser therapy for post-operative therapy or chronic pain management.
Behavior & Training
Behavioral Counseling & Training: We can provide advice regarding the correction of problems such as excessive barking, chewing, spraying, scratching, digging, house soiling and aggression. Our professional dog trainers offer a variety of educational and fun classes for dogs of all ages and abilities including certified canine behavior consultants, puppy training classes, obedience training classes, Canine Good Citizen courses (CGC), agility training, and therapy dog training.
