Joan L., Hospital Manager started her career with Bolton Veterinary Hospital in December 1984. In over twenty-five years, Joan has worked in almost every area of the hospital and she is now our Hospital Manager. Joan says it feels like she and BVH have grown up together and that it is a place of great integrity. Joan loves working with people who feel like family and who all care about the work they do together. Her “first” family consists of her very supportive husband, daughter, six cats, and one dog. All of her pets have been rescued. Joan’s special projects at BVH include the Pet Adoption Program and the Allan Leventhal Memorial Fund. In 2005, Joan spearheaded the first “Adopt-a-Pet Fun Day” which was a huge success. She also enjoys the beach, working with stained glass, gardening, and reading. Joan says she is always in the middle of a book!
Matt, Hospital Manager – as a second generation hospital employee, Matt has literally grown up at BVH. Prior to becoming Hospital Manager, Matt has spent 20 years working at and managing the Pet’s Store Next Door, as well as managing IT for the hospital.
Karen A., Supervisor, is a technician who came to BVH eight years ago with ten years of experience in the veterinary field. She has a special interest in emergency medicine and surgery but can also be found assisting in bookkeeping. Some of her outside interests include traveling, sports, camping, and spending time with her children. Her pets include an adopted three-year-old German Shepherd named Cooper; two felines, Sarah and Dexter; and an adorable mouse, Stuart Little.
Shannon A., Supervisor – As one of our outpatient supervisors, Shannon can be found tackling a variety of tasks on any given day. Before joining the BVH team in 2004, Shannon was a veterinary technician in California for three years and spent four years as a marine mammal trainer in Hawaii. After taking a break from working with animals, Shannon decided she wanted to get back into the field and that is how she wound up at Bolton Vet. In her free time, Shannon can be found cheering on her daughter, Taylor, at horse shows and her son, Kaden, at soccer games. Shannon and her husband also share their home with 3 dogs, 4 cats and a very sweet pet rat.
Carol C., Supervisor, has been with us since February 1986. She possesses a B.S. in Renewable Natural Resources, and she came to our practice as a veterinary technician because she had previous experience in the field. Over the years, Carol has come to feel that the staff here is her extended family. Carol supervises our outpatient staff and spends much of her time keeping our computer system up to date, coordinating educational animal programs, and working on expanding our facility. Carol is the wife of Dr. David Coley and spends a great deal of time with their children, Adam and Rachel. Carol spends her free time reading, hiking, scrapbooking, and taking care of their many animals (tarantulas, snakes, birds, dogs, cats, and a chinchilla). Chip, their Golden Retriever, is one of our Allan’s Angels Therapy Dogs.
Lisa C., CVT, Supervisor, attended both Becker College and UCONN. She has been with us since June, 1988. She supervises our lab and outpatient staff. She has many human and pet members in her family. Her pets include a beagle (Daisy), a dachshund mix (Lily), a hound mix (Arlo), many cats and many farm animals.
Kristy D., CVT, Supervisor, joined our team in May, 1996, and is one of our inpatient supervisors. What she enjoys the most about BVH is “the teamwork and dedication of the doctors and staff. Everyone is committed to doing the best for our patients. The doctors are patient, kind, and knowledgeable. They are always keeping up with the changes in veterinary medicine and being open to new ideas. The technicians are great! They are truly the heart and soul of BVH. Their commitment to excellence and dedication to giving the best care possible are a large part of why BVH has been so successful.” Kristy’s special interests are anesthesia, critical care, and surgery. In her spare time she enjoys reading, hiking, and exercising. She has two beautiful chocolate Labrador Retrievers and two beautiful children.
Carol F., Supervisor, graduated from Becker College with an A.S. in Animal Science in 1986, and later received an A.S. in Accounting and Business Administration from Manchester Community College. She then sent out resumes to various hospitals listed in the phone book. Luckily we were the first to call her, and she has been with us ever since! Carol is trained to work in all areas of the hospital, and is one of our Outpatient Supervisors. Her special interest is in pharmacology, and along with Lori P., manages our inventory. She shares her home with one cat (Nala) and two very devoted dogs (Lola and Shelly). Carol enjoys karaoke, spending time with her daughter, reading, needlework, balancing the books for her husband’s business, and spending time outdoors.
Erin J., CVT, Supervisor, has been a member of the BVH team ever since graduating from the University of Connecticut with her undergraduate degree. Growing up with pets and riding horses, Erin has always had a love for animals and an interest in veterinary medicine. Starting out as an Animal Care Technician at Bolton Vet, she learned all of her technician skills on the job and is now a Certified Veterinary Technician. In addition to being a tech, Erin is also a hospital supervisor and teaches our Veterinary Assistant course at Manchester Community College. In her time off, Erin can be found at the barn with her horse, Sapphire, or at home with her husband, daughter and 7 pets. She owns 6 cats: Frankie, Lana, Ollie, KC, Monty and Cooper and one chinchilla named Stanley.
Lori P., Supervisor, joined us in August 1991 because, as she says, “all the best pets come here.” She came to us with a B.A. from UCONN and three years experience as a technician at a one-doctor practice. Lori now works as one of our supervisors and, along with Carol F., Lori handles our purchasing and inventory. She enjoys gardening and movies and can answer any pop culture trivia question you throw her way. Lori has a terrier named Nigel.
