Erin Anderson, DVM

Dr. Anderson obtained her D.V.M. degree from The Ohio State University Veterinary School in the spring of 2002 and joined us shortly thereafter. She completed her undergraduate studies at Denison University in Granville, Ohio, in 1999.  "Dr. A." has six cats, all domestic shorthairs: Bonnie, Clyde, Sandman, Pokey, Tigger and Bear. Her newest addition is a Springer Spaniel named Rosie. She enjoys hiking, kayaking and other outdoor activities.

Paul Badeau, DVM

Dr. Badeau started volunteering for our clinic when he was only 14 years old. He began working as a technician in April 1997 and continued working here as he attended the University of Connecticut where he received his undergraduate degree in Pathobiology in 2003. He left us to obtain his D.V.M from the University of Minnesota, graduating in 2007. Fortunately, he returned shortly after graduating to re-join our staff as a veterinarian. Dr. Badeau chose to return to our clinic because of our "family-like" atmosphere and because we offer one of the highest case-loads in the area. He enjoys the diversity that our emergency clinic offers and appreciates the collaborative effort that this 19 doctor practice provides. His special interests lie in dentistry and alternative medicine. At home, Dr. Badeau has 3 cats, Mojo, Achilles, and Sophie, and a German Shepherd named Zooma. When he's not working, Dr. Badeau enjoys fly-fishing, camping, hiking, and metal-smithing with his wife Jenny.

Erin Brennan, DVM

Dr. Brennan came to us in 2008.  She received her bachelor's degree from UCONN in Animal Science with a major in chemistry and then went on to graduate from the University of Illinois with her Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine.  She says it is hard to come up with just one reason as to why she chose BVH.  The availability of 24 hour nursing care, the incredible staff and the diverse case load are among the things she likes the best.  Her areas of special interest include soft tissue surgery, dermatology, and dentistry.  She also finds the emergency clinic to be stimulating, challenging and rewarding all at the same time.  Dr Brennan shares her home with Emery, her rescued pit bull terrier.  Her outside interests include horseback riding, kayaking, hiking, and reading.

Sonja Gotler, DVM

 

Dr. Gotler obtained her undergraduate degree from the University of Rochester in 1995 and her Doctorate from Purdue University in 1999. After graduation, she completed an internship in small animal medicine and surgery at Cornell University and acted as an instructor in clinical pathology at Cornell.  Dr. Gotler joined our professional staff in January of 2002, finding the working atmosphere, skilled staff, and the availability of 24-hour care appealing.  Dr. Gotler's special interests are clinical pathology, surgery, and ultrasonography.  She has two Golden Retrievers, Haley & Bo, one Labrador Retriever, Elsa, and a Horse named Jem. She is an avid reader and enjoys writing and hiking.

Edward Grace, DVM

Dr. Grace is a 1983 graduate of UConn (B.S. Pathobiology, Magna Cum Laude, Degree with Distinction) and a 1988 graduate of Purdue University (D.V.M.). Dr. Grace has been a veterinarian at B.V.H. since 1994. For many years he was engaged primarily in the practice of emergency medicine/critical care, an area in which he retains an interest. Dr. Grace most enjoys the challenges and rewards of seeing a large number of difficult cases in a practice that retains its practical 'down to earth' philosophy. Dr. Grace has served on many boards and commissions including nine years on the Connecticut Veterinary Medical Association Executive Board and several years on the Coventry School Building and Grouping committees. His other extra curricular activities include running, cycling, and cross country skiing. His passion for running extends to his long standing position as High School Cross Country and Middle School Track Coach for the Coventry Public Schools. 

Kim Griswold, DVM

Dr. Griswold joined us as a technician in 1996 while attending Tufts University School of Veterinary Medicine. She graduated in 1999 and continued with us as a veterinarian. Dr. Griswold chose to stay with us because she appreciated the dedicated staff of quality doctors who are always willing to pitch in and help out on a tough case, the skilled technicians, our on-site diagnostic services, the availability of a board-certified surgeon and internists, and the fact that we offer 24-hour care. She treats dogs and cats and her area of special interest is internal medicine. She currently has a 3-legged cat, Trudy, and a Great Dane, Coby. Dr. Griswold enjoys birding, hiking, kayaking, reading, and movies. 


Shonna Kalos, DVM

Dr. Kalos is another of our veterinarians who "grew up" at Bolton Vet. She started in our job shadow program as a high school student, and interned as a college student before we officially took her onto our staff. Shonna worked her way up from kennel assistant to veterinary technician while graduating from UCONN in 1999 with a B.S. in Animal Science. Later, she attended Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine located on the beautiful island of St. Kitts in the Caribbean. She graduated with her D.V.M. in 2006 and went on to do a small animal internship with a focus on emergency medicine at North Carolina State University. Fortunately, Dr. Kalos returned to our practice in July 2007. She missed our family here and knew that returning would provide her with the opportunity to practice high quality medicine in a supportive environment while continuously growing and learning from the numerous other veterinarians and specialists here. She wanted the opportunity to practice emergency medicine in addition to performing general soft tissue surgery and wellness examinations. Dr. Kalos currently has two cats, Oscar and Maya, whom she adopted while in vet school. 

Ashleigh Kopec, DVM

 

Dr. Kopec came to BVH in May 2005 after receiving a B.S. from Rutgers University and a D.V.M. from Tufts. Dr. Kopec chose Bolton Veterinary Hospital because of the "quality of medicine practiced in a large family-like environment" and because of the great clients. Her special interests include treating exotic pets and emergency medicine. Dr. Kopec has one ferret named Annabelle, two cats named Parker and Leo, and a lab mix named Dakota. Outside of work, Dr. Kopec enjoys hiking, camping, running, and skiing. 

Connie Lee, DVM


Dr. Lee joined BVH in 2005 after receiving both her B.A. and D.V.M. degrees from Cornell University. She appreciates the BVH staff for their support and level of knowledge and experience, and enjoys working with them on all of the diverse cases that we encounter here at BVH. She is especially interested in canine and feline internal medicine. Outside of work, Dr. Lee's interests include food and wine tasting, traveling, reading, playing the piano, and playing with her Nintendo Wii. Dr. Lee and her husband share their home with a retired Cornell research dog named Marion, a three-legged cat named Howie, and a one-eyed cat named Hefty Smurf.

Kenneth Malm, DVM

Dr. Malm came to us in 1983 after earning his Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine at Iowa State University. He cites the high quality of medicine and surgery, as well as the large variety of animal species seen at BVH, as his reasons for choosing us. Dr. Malm is one of our "farm doctors," administering care to the large animals in the community. His special interests include pocket pets (i.e., rabbits and rodents), feline medicine, and internal medicine. Dr. Malm is especially skilled in soft tissue surgery. 

Dr Malm has three dogs: Nemo, a Shetland Sheepdog, Greta, a Doberman, and Jack, a Mastiff mix. He enjoys hiking, gourmet cooking, and traveling. 

Gene Nesbitt, DVM, MS, DACVD

Dr. Nesbitt received his DVM from Washington State University in 1966, earned his MS from Oregon State University in 1977, and became board certified by the American College of Veterinary Dermatology in 1978. His background includes associate, part owner, and owner in private practice; Staff Dermatologist and Director of Education, Animal Medical Center, New York; lecturer, clinical professor and Staff Dermatologist at Tufts University. His past professional activities include EXCEL Examination Committee Section Chairman and Chairman of the American College of Veterinary Dermatology. He has authored or co-authored three veterinary dermatology textbooks and has authored 35 scientific articles.

Tanya Perry, DVM

Dr. Perry is our proudly Canadian veterinarian, earning her Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Prince Edward Island, followed by a doctorate of veterinary medicine at the Atlantic Veterinary College in 1999. She started working at Bolton Vet doing emergency relief work in 2001, and enjoyed the atmosphere, quality of medicine and staff so much that she became a full time doctor in 2003. Dr. Perry seeks variety and challenge in her life, and finds plenty of both in her career at this hospital. She has a keen interest in emergency medicine/critical care, and thoroughly enjoys both orthopedic and soft tissue surgeries of all types. In her spare time, Dr Perry keeps busy with travel and plenty of outdoor activities including hiking, camping, running, swimming and cycling.. She shares her home with a Newfoundland dog named Sally, an Irish Wolfhound named Jillian, and a Border Collie Mix named Eddie Murphy. She also has a three legged cat named Tommy Boy, a cat with a thousand toes called Stewie, and a part mammoth, part Maine Coon cat named Bruce.

Michelle Pesce, DVM


Dr. Pesce received her bachelor's degree at Stony Brook University in Neurobiology & Physiology in 2008, then went on to vet school at Cornell University, graduating in 2012. She chose to work at Bolton because of the great potential to learn from the experience of so many skilled doctors and technicians, each with their own special interests. Dr. Pesce's favorite patients are exotic pets and wildlife; she has traveled to Costa Rica and Honduras to work with native birds, mammals, reptiles & amphibians. She is interested in understanding the natural history and behavior of all species kept as pets, as this can help us learn how to keep them healthy and live with them harmoniously. Her own pets include a pionus parrot, two zebra finches, a red-eared slider, and a bunny who thinks he is a dog. Since moving to Connecticut, Dr. Pesce has enjoyed exploring the local parks, birding, and traveling to visit friends.

Brad Pikas, DVM

Dr. Pikas joined our staff in June 2005. He completed his undergraduate work in 1996 at Washington University in St. Louis, focusing on Environmental Sciences. He attained his D.V.M. from the University of Illinois in 2003 and continued with an internship in 2004 in small animal medicine, surgery, and critical care. He chose Bolton Veterinary Hospital because of its great staff with an unbelievable amount of cumulative experience, knowledge, and expertise. In addition, the hospital is able to receive emergencies 24 hours a day. His special interests in the veterinary field include emergency medicine, critical care, and wildlife/zoo medicine. Dr. Pikas enjoys ice hockey, in-line hockey, biking, camping and backpacking. He has two dogs, Paris and Remi, and a cat named Bam. 

William Pomper, DVM

 

A 1968 graduate of Cornell University, Dr. Pomper has been a member of our professional staff for 34 years. He chose BVH due to our mixed practice, as he enjoys small animals and farm animals alike. Every year, Dr. Pomper spends part of his vacation time as a volunteer for the HSUS Veterinary Field Services, a branch of the US Humane Society, (formerly known as RAVS), administering veterinary care to animals on Native American reservations that otherwise would would not have access to such care. Dr. Pomper enjoys recreational hockey as a member of Team Buzzard, as well as backpacking and sea kayaking. He also enjoys folk music and regularly serenades our staff. He has two cats, Bobby and Leia, and one Tibetan Spaniel named Farley. 

Jennifer Sim, VMD

 

Dr. Sim is a 2004 graduate of the University of Pennsylvania School of Veterinary Medicine. After graduation, she joined Bolton Veterinary Hospital as an associate veterinarian. During her first few years at Bolton Vet, she developed an acute awareness of veterinary dentistry and in 2008, she began extensive training in this area. Dr. Sim is in her 3rd year of a non-traditional residency in Small Animal Veterinary Dentistry and Oral Surgery, spending hundreds of hours working with board-certified veterinary dental specialists across the country.

This extensive training has prepared Dr. Sim to treat a wide range of dental diseases including root canal therapy, crown therapy, all phases of periodontal disease, and orthodontic therapy for the treatment bite abnormalities. Dr Sim is also skilled at performing oral surgery to address difficult extractions, oral tumors, repair traumatic jaw fractures, and addressing salivary gland abnormalities.

Michael Tulman, DVM

 

Dr. Tulman joined BVH in May of 1972 after graduating from the New York State Veterinary College at Cornell University. A lifelong resident of Connecticut, Dr. Tulman was born and raised in Hartford, graduating from Weaver High School and attending the University of Connecticut before pursuing his doctorate in veterinary medicine. Dr. Tulman has focused his practice on general veterinary care with special emphasis and training in general and orthopedic surgery, avian medicine, and farm animal medicine and surgery. Dr. Tulman has three grown sons: a scientist, an artist, and a college student. He shares a home in Ashford with Kari Olson, his four black Labradors, (Summer, Breezy, Daisy and Lilly), a Shetland Sheepdog, (Squire), three stray cats, (Kailey, Denver, and Don Juan), five sheep, and six geese. He has been a principal member of BVH and devoted to the practice for 36 years.


David White, DVM, DACVS


Dr. White, joined the professional staff of Bolton Veterinary Hospital in April 2007. Dr. White was on the surgical staff at Cheshire Veterinary Hospital prior to starting his own mobile surgical practice. He has been doing orthopedic, soft tissue and spinal surgical procedures for our practice since joining our staff. Dr. White is an excellent surgeon, handles client communication directly, and remains involved with the postoperative care of surgical patients throughout their hospitalization and subsequent follow-up. Dr. White is available for referral surgery and surgical consults, and our staff is available to provide 24-hour care to his postoperative patients.

Kathryn Zyra, VMD


Dr. Zyra has been practicing at BVH since 1998, after graduating from the University of Pennsylvania. She has an undergraduate degree from Bennington College in Bennington, Vermont. Dr. Zyra's special interest is in small animals, including exotic pets and wildlife. She has a Bearded Collie mix named Aoife, a Briard named Gavin, a terrier mix named King Squiggles and two cats named Jellybean and D'artagnan.

Lynne Zelinsky, DVM


Dr. Zelinsky earned her Bachelor of Science in Animal Science at the University of New Hampshire and Doctor of Veterinary Medicine at Cornell University's College of Veterinary Medicine.  Her professional interests include emergency medicine, feline medicine, soft tissue surgery, ultrasound, and exotic medicine.  She enjoys hiking, running, horseback riding, quilting and home renovation.  She shares her home with two cats (Oden and Thor), a mixed breed dog (Jewel) and a Thoroughbred gelding named Scotch.
